Firstly, I highly recommend the Cabin Porn book, published by Penguin Random House UK. As the cover states it provides ‘inspiration for your quiet place somewhere’, and it is filled with cabin gems and magical tree houses in the midst of nature. As The New York Times puts it, the books is, ‘an enchanting rabbit hole of handmade houses.’
My cabin adventure starts in Rathdrum, Wicklow. I stayed in a ‘cosy cabin’ on a little farm in the woodland countryside with my sister courtesy of airbnb. (Only £26 a night! Insane.) There were three separate cabins for our use: One bedroom cabin, with our own garden picnic bench, consisting of a comfortable double bed, two chairs, and a writing desk; one kitchen cabin (shared with guests in the ‘delightful cabin,’ which had some lovely kitchen amenities, a little kitchen table, mini hobs to cook ; and a little bathroom cabin with all the essential amenities.
We loved our cosy bedroom cabin, we had gorgeous views, and there is nothing quite like being at one with nature, waking up to bird song and to the sounds of the Rooster’s cockaldoodledoo (is that how you say it?!?) We loved the chickens on the farm, and just the peace. It was bliss.

A Breakfast hamper was also included and it was gorgeous: fresh orange juice, fresh eggs from the chickens, homemade bread, churned butter, and a selection of marmalade and jams.

It is also a short drive away from the Wicklow mountains, and a 15 minute walk to Avondale house and forest. We loved our stay in the cabin, and it has inspired me to one day create my own little writing cabin!
